FAO:Suzanne Barnhill re TOC doing odd things

Thanks Suzanne but I had removed the hanging indents. The
only paragraph settings I left are the left indent of 0.5
for level 2 TOC2 and 1 cm for level 3 TOC3, and space
after. By the way, the dots occur in all TOC levels, not
just level 3. The only tabs I've got set are 15 cm right
and 14 cm left which, according to John McGhie's guide,
leave a gap between the dots and page number. I do get the
gap but its after the words. ie.
1.2........................Introduction 6
Has anyone any other ideas please?
Thanks
Jane

Well, there's your problem. If the only tab stop you have is for the page
numbers, then that's the one the tab after the number is going to. You need
to insert a tab stop somewhere to the right of your longest number.
Moreover, any tab stops you use to leave space between the leaders and the
page number will be useless unless you unlink the TOC because the tabs
themselves will be removed when you update the TOC.
