For my Access 2000 database i'll just list the steps i've
taken then tell the problem and hopefully someone can tell
me what i need to do further.
1. First i created my own workgroup information file. I
placed it someplace outside the default location.
2. I then joined the new workgroup information file.
3. I went through the security wizard as i was told in
the FAQ #1, with my username in the Admins group, and not
allowing any access at all to the "users" group
4. When the wizard finished, as it should have, it put
my username in the Admins group and it took the user Admin
out of the Admins group. So the Admin user has no access
to anything. This works just fine. If you try to log-on as
the Admin user, then you can't open/run the database.
The problem is when i put my database out on the
shared drive where others have access to the program. When
they open the database, they aren't even prompted for a
password. I think this is because when they open the
database on their computer, they are initially set up to
use the default workgroup information file. In this
default workgroup information file, the Admin user is a
member of the Admins group, and the Admin user doesn't
have a password. So they automatically get into my
database with full rights!
One solution is to put my workgroup info file on the
shared drive as well and then make sure they join that
group instead of using the default. But is there any way i
can not let them into my databse even if they use the
default workgroup information file? I.e. force them to
join my group in order to log-on? Thanks.
