I tried posting this ten hours ago, but it did not appear.
Trying again after going through the subscribe procedure...
I have Windows XP home, SP1 with all updates and Office XP
pro SP2 with all updates and with all components
installed 'run from my computer'
The indexing service in Windows XP is enabled and working.
Using Search companion in Windows Explorer, I can find
files containing specified text, without any problems.
In Word (and in Excel), the fast search produces 'no
results, for an identical search that produced lots of
files in Windows search. Nothing that I have found in the
MS knowledge data base works for my set-up (the articles I
have found refer to other versions of Windows and none of
the suggestions work for me. The help file in Word
suggests (for other Windows versions than XP) to install
the component 'support for fast searching' from office
tools, using add/remove, etc. from control panel. No such
item is listed in the Office Pro add/remove components
list that shows up on my PC when I try this. I have also
tried repair, and I have also unchecked the Norton plug in
for Microsoft Office, No joy.
Help or suggestions on how to get search working would be
much appreciated.
