Fatal error 82 can't install or uninstall

Running Windows XP, All my Office apps don't work, Outlook express, Word,
Excel, say that my worksheets are read only and can't find valid path.
Re-installed XP os no change. Tried to uninstall, get fatal error 82 aborts.
I think the logfile is gone or corrupt. IE works fine, can surf web. No
virus found in scan.

Try re-installing Office over the top of the current installation
