Fatal Error during the Installation

I have downloaded Trial version of OneNote from the link given automatically
by microsoft site.
It works well at my home laptop (Dell Inspiron 8600) but does not even
install on my work PC (Dell Optiplex GX280, Pentium 4, 3GHz, 1GB RAM; WinXP
Pro).

When I run the given .exe file, it unpacks some archives and suddenly stops
with a message: "Fatal Error During the Installation"

I have searched in internet. There is nothing, JUST NOTHING about it!!! Only
the messages from people with the same problem with only one difference: they
say they have RAID, and I have no RAID on my PC.
I even called Microsoft technicians (Germany). They directed me here.

I would really appreciate if this problem would be solved asap.

Thanks

Is there any other error code or text on the screen when you get the
"Fatal Error" message?

Is it the same downloaded version on both machines? i.e. did you
download it once, install it correctly on the laptop and then copy that
same downloaded file to the desktop? Or did you download it again a
second time to install on the desktop?

Are there any log files from the install in your temp directory? (Open
up a command prompt and type "echo %temp%" without the quotes to find out
which directory Windows is using as the Temp directory under your
profile. The MS Office installer utility should be writing to a log file
in that directory. Info from that log might be useful.

Hi,

I got the same error. I checked the log file and found the following
reason/error:

Parsing Download Info
Error 0x80040111
Couldn't load C:\DOKUME~1\campus\LOKALE~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\ONOTE11N.xml
LocalCache has failed. EnforceCache has been set. Exiting...
Shutting down chained setup processing.

Would be glad if anyone could help me.

Thanks.

René
