Fatal error when pasting in hyperlinks

I was trying to respond to someone on a newsgroup. I did a Google groups
search and was trying to paste in the URLs of the NG responses that came up.
I opened each likely response and, if it was relevant, copied the URL from
the address bar and pasted it into Word, where it immediately turned into a
hyperlink.

I got two pasted in - both were about 7-8 lines long (I don't know how to
compress them into small links!). After pasting in the second link and
seeing it turn blue and underlined, Word pops up a fatal error message box
and crashes. It's an "unknown software application error (something) at
(something)" - click okay to close Word.

Is this Word or Windows? Is there a way to keep this from happening? I'm
using Word2000 and Windows2000.
