BACKROUND:
I have a PII 400mHz/128MB RAM/60G hddr laptop on which I
have installed Win XP Professional and Win Office 2003
Professional. I am also supposed to have IE 6.0 (this will
become relevant shortly), although updates for that program
do not acknowledge the program. The machine works fine.
PROBLEM:
I, essentially, cannot use Office. It is constantly
crashing or hanging during initialization and is therefor
exceptionally unreliable for any of the tasks which I
purchased it for. All of Office 2003 suite is fatally
unstable. I have sought out all possible updates and
installed them (except for the latest: 8300000, because a
file name is apparently "too long") to no avail. Now for
the fun complication: I've been hunting updates in Mozilla
because IE, although not as unstable, just plain doesn't
work. Most of the pages on the MS websites don't load,
especially the update pages, and--as I've
mentioned--updates won't install because my version is not
recognized as IE 6 even though I installed it from the MS
site...
