Favorties folder keeps resurrecting items I previously removed

Favorties folder keeps resurrecting items I previously removed. I want to
remove all of the folders in there, I do so, they are gon. When I restart
Outlook 2003 some are back again including the Outlook one I do not want
there. Is there a solution to remove it permanently?

the changes are not saved until outlook closes properly and completely. if
it crashes, the nav pane is either replaced with the default one or without
the changes. Remove the items then immediately close outlook - wait a minute
or two and look in task manager to see if it was closed.

I tried that and always a set of folders reappears (Inbox, Unread, For Follow
Up, Sent, Inbox In Hotmail). Even shutting down the machine after shutting
down Outlook does not help.
