fax consule

Hi, I am having trouble with the microsoft fax consule-
Usually, when I receive a fax, I do so with a regular fax
machine ( the sharp UX-300 series)-I have been getting
faxes for a few years this way. I have been playing
around with the fax consule to see if I can get faxes
sent to my pc as well-So maybe I clicked on a thing or
two to change something- Here is my problem: sometimes
when my phone rings and I answer the phone, I can hear
the fax noise coming through- But it is a regular phone
call and not a fax- so I have to wait for the annoying
fax noises to go away before continuing my conversation-
then if my pc happens to be on and I happen to look at my
monitor, I can see the fax consule doing its thing to
receive a fax that obviously wont come in.Here is what I
also have: 1) distingtive ring which is a seperate phone
# for receiving faxes- so it rings twice> then twice
again which indicates to me not to answer the phone
because a fax is coming in to my fax machine
I hope this is enough info but if not and someone replys,
I'll check back and see what else you need- Since I think
that this is a microsoft program, I cant go to another
website other than this for support.
P.s there was only one time since this thing has been
acting up that I actually DID receive a real fax and was
on pc to witness it- at other times, I have been getting
faxes regularly on my fax machine (not connected to pc
but share the same telephone line) thanks

Before reading through your entire post, why don't you post what fax program
you are using (Microsoft offers Microsoft Fax as a part of Windows
Messaging, Symantec Starter Edition as a part of Outlook 98 and 2000 IMO,
Windows Fax for 2000 and XP). This will at least get us a few less ?? posts
and perhaps a faster answer.

Also, post your OS and Office versions.

I believe I am using the 'Microsoft fax consule'version
5.1 /copyright 1981-2001-I have windows XP home edition/
And Like I said before, I have pretty much always used a
seperate plain paper fax machine not connected to the pc
to do all my sending & receiving (although, if I learned
how to properly use fax features on the pc, someday I
will do it that way)- I hope I answered your question-
And I appreciate your trying to answer mine-
