Running Win ME & Outlook 2000. Have a 56K modem installed
(and connected to a phone line) but am currently accessing
internet via cable modem.
Have had Winfax Starter Edition problems since it was
installed with Office 2000 but have had it working several
times. Then I change something & have a bad time getting
it up & running again. E-mails are never a problem but
faxes sure are.
I am getting a server timeout error whenever I try to send
or receive. When sending there is no apparent server or
modem connection (again, I get a server timeout error).
Everything comes up the way it should when I try to
receive (rings, picks up, shows transferring) but there's
no notice of a fax received. (There is, however, always a
numbered file with an "FXR" extension (ie. 2051101.FXR).
The data is there but Winfax isn't communicating with the
server and/or translating it into a readable format. I
know the information is there because I can open these
files in their proper format using Symantec's
Miniviewer).
Displaying details shows "Unable to send faxes. Timeout
occurred while communicating with server. Account:
Symantec Starter Edition SMTP server: 127.0.0.1, error
number: 0x800ccc19".
Have come across several references to this at Microsoft
but can't seem to correct the problem using their
solutions.
Modem is recognized (&I know it works), Olfaxmod & Wfxmsvr
files both show up when you press Control/Alt/Delete
(close programs box) and, as near as I can tell, all other
settings are correct according to all the troubleshooting
articles I can find.
I've had this (or something very similar) problem before
but don't know how it was corrected.
Thanks for any help
