Fax

Hi,
I live in an area where you have to include your area code to call local
numbers, I had a user
e-mail this issue that she is having using the fax utility.

I put all my contacts in outlook, with their email, phone and fax numbers.
Then I
grouped them into people with email, people with faxes. I am trying to fax
to my fax group, and I entered them with their 419 area codes, but the
computer is trying to dial them without the area code. I know it has
something to do with my dialing rules, but I cannot figure it out. When I
select just one or two people to fax it goes right through.

She's using XP Pro with Office 2003 and it's a standalone.

Thanks in advance, Craig

Hello Craig,

From the post log, I understand that the area codes are missing when you
try to fax from Outlook.
If this is not correct, please let me know.

Based on my research, I recommend you try the following steps to type a
telephone number for an Outlook contact so that Outlook ignores your
dialing properties and dials the telephone number exactly as you type it.
This is useful if you want any area code rules ignored for one particular
telephone number.

To have Outlook dial a number exactly as you type it, place quotation marks
("") around the number in the telephone number box for the contact.

1. Start Outlook.
2. Open your Contacts folder.
3. Double-click a contact to open the contact information.
4. In the appropriate telephone number box (Business, Home, Business Fax,
Mobile), type the telephone or fax number exactly as you want it dialed but
surrounded with quotation marks, and then click Save and Close.

For example, if you want Outlook to dial 1 (904) 555-1212, type the number
as "19045551212"

-or-

if you want Outlook to dial (904) 555-1212, type the number as "9045551212"

-or-

if you want Outlook to dial 555-1212, type the number as "5551212".

I hope this helps.
