few things/questions about working with public folders (WSBS2k3,O2

Hello,

i recently implemented public folder to few users. When they using if (from
Outlook 2007) they send me some questions/problems to solve:
1. when mail is moved from one public folder to another by left mouse button
users expected thet orginal mail shoud be moved but it is copied. this is
confusing because in mailbox moving mail by left mouse button move not copyy
the item.
2. when mails come from Internet to public folder it is as announcement and
when users answer on it there is only sender address but no CC.
3. conflicts - when conflicts occures? i have a lot of conflics and users
told me that only one user working on one mail in public folder but i think
different :) does viewing one mail in public folder by two or more users make
conflicts or only change in mail like moving it ?

1) Because it is within the same storage location. It's the same as when
moving a file on a disk; it moves when it is on the same disk but it copies
when it is on another disk. To have more control over your copy/move
actions, learn yourself to always drag & drop with the right mouse button.

2) No idea what you are asking here. If there are more recipients specified
in a message and you want to include them all in your reply, you'll have to
click "Reply to All" just like with messages that arrive in your Inbox.

3) What kind of conflicts are you talking about? A single item can be opened
by multiple persons at a time. However, when they all make changes to it at
the same time, the message for the last one to click the Save button will
eventually be saved. If this is the nature of the work, then consider using
a document management system like SharePoint so they can see who has the
file open.

thanks for info

ad. 2 that is a point. when i click "reply to All" i should have all mail
but i have only address of sender. i noticed that when i send mail to that
public folder from inside account i see that object as a mail (answering
'reply to all' gives good result) but when mail to public folder i s sended
from outside of company (other domain) this mail is visible not as mail with
envelope icon but as announce icon. and if it is anounce object ''replay to
all' put only sender address. it is wired. why oyutside mail are stored in
public folder as annoucements (i notice that i use smarthost for exchange
serwer - maybe it is a issue).

You must change the default delivery format from IPM.Post to IPM.Note on the
Exchange server.
See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817809

Hello,

i did not change yet but i hav a question. When i make change as in KB only
new comming mails will be in class IPM.Note or all mails which was already in
public folder?

Only new messages will be coming in as IPM.Note. Existing items will keep
their current class.

From the KB;
"If you set the registry key to have a value of 1 (one), the behavior
changes, and new SMTP mail messages from a non-MAPI source appear as
IPM.Note."

You mean "How can I change historical mail in Public Folders?"
You can't as they have been converted already. If the messages are still
within a mailbox folder you can copy them again to the Public Folder.

Hello,

Roady, thanks for your info. i have just changed on my WSBS and new comming
mails in PF are now IMP.Note. this issue is resolved but i find another that
in OWA i can not reply for mails in PF. Can it be changeg?

You're welcome! :)

What happens when you try? I believe there is no native way to set a
different From address in OWA if that is what you are asking.
