Fialure of Side-by-Side to Close Properly

In Windows 2003, I usued the side-by-side comparison with two docuements as I
have done frequently. After closing one document, before undoing the
side-by-side, the remaining document is now side-by-side and cannot be
restored to a single view. Re-opening the second document and trying to
re-close did not work. How do I return to a normal view?

If you normally operate in a Normal (Restored) window, then you'll need to
resize it; if you normally work Maximized, then you'll have to maximize the
window.
