Field code: NumPages

I did this once before in Word '97, but can't remember
exactly how!

When inserting the Page and NumPage fields into a header
or footer, how do I have the NumPage field show something
other than the "real" total number of pages, in other
words, I don't want it to count the two pages preceeding
it. I used something like: "Page {PAGE} of {=
(StartingNumber -2) + {NUMPAGES}} in a Word 97 proposal
and it worked, but only get an error message in my 2000
document.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as
