Field code to display numbers and text

Earl

I want to display both number and text in a word document using an excel file
as my database.

The data is mostly numeric "0.041" but some are "<0.010", the latter
displays as 0.00 when I apply a field code of ......\# "0.000" to round
numbers to three decimal places.

Are you talking about mail merge? In which version of Office?

Right. For the future, the best place to get a quick response is the mail merge /
fields newsgroup :)

This is a factor of how the connection method is pulling the information out of
Excel. It basically doesn't like "mixed" data types. Since it's getting very
difficult to use a DDE connection, these days, your only recourse is to tell Excel
all the data should be interpreted, literally, as text. You have to do this through
the DATA menu (just formatting the cell isn't good enough).

Select the column in question. Data/Text to columns. In the third step you can
specify "Text" as the data type.
