Field codes show every time document is opened in notebook view

I am using notebook view for several documents. Recently each time I open the document the field codes are dispayed (audionotes, dates, etc,) so I go to preferences, uncheck field codes and everything is resolved. I save the document before closing, however, each time I open the document I have the same problem. thanks for any suggestions.

Are any other Pref settings misbehaving?

Make sure the OS is fully updated, repair permissions & restart the Mac. If
that doesn't resolve it post back to go a few steps further.

As far as I know there are no other preferences misbehaving. However, this did not resolve the problem. Thanks for your help.

Hi Jennifer:

The View>Field codes option is saved in the Preferences, not the document.

If you have the option turned off for the LAST document you close when you
quit Word, the setting should hold.

If it does not, I think you need to blow away your Word preferences:
User/Library/Preferences/com.Microsoft.Word.plist

All Office applications must be quit when you trash this file. It pays to
reboot afterwards.

Hopefully that's the only file you will need to take out: come back if it
doesn't fix it and we'll give you the scorched earth treatment.
