Field codes turned on in document

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: intel

Hi everyone,

I have a document with field codes inside it, but for some reason whenever I open it up all the code within the field codes are showing and I have to select the entire document and press toggle field codes in order to turn off the underlying code and see the values. Is there some setting that I have to turn on or off so that when I open the file, all I see are the values and not the fields?

Try Word | Preferences | View, uncheck "field codes". I think that's
application-wide.
