Field Error in Linked Table

Once I retrieve my table an error occurs in the field
labeled CAN(Common Account Number). It appears like this:
#Num!

I reviewed the data in the Microsoft Excel format and it's
displayed correctly and example: 8425754

How will I make a change to a field in a linked Table?

Urgent Help Needed!!!!

I retrieve the data in through a linked microsoft
spreadsheet I'm in the Datasheet view of the table. The
field size has 255 in the column, Format has an @ next to
it???? Can I change the field information if it is
incorrect??? Keep in mind this table is linked.

If it's linked thru the wizard, it will usually assign a
number column as Double Data Type, 255 & @ is default for
Text fields, so either the excel spreadsheet has text
somewhere in the CAN column, or the column is formatted as
something other than Number or General, check the original
Excel spreadsheet column.
