field in header linked to recipient

Hi all.
I have a number of letter templates.
In these letter templates I have locations for a recipient's name, and
showing an item value that describes the purpose for the letter.
What I'd like to do is to place an auto field in my header that links back
to these two locations.
I've looked at the insert fields, and choices from there, and I do not
specifically see anything that will allow me to perform this task.
How can I do this-- or is it even possible?
We're using Office 2007.
Thank you.
Best.

Hi Steve,

If this is a mailmerge, then you could simply insert the required mergefields in the header.

If it's not a mailmerge, then you could bookmark the required material and insert a cross-reference to it. Exactly how you do the
bookmarking depends on whether this is a normal document or a fillable form.

Hi Macropod,
This is a normal document. I'll look into bookmarks and see what I need.
Thanks for the direction.
If I need any more help on it I'll be back.

Thanks Doug.
You forgot to add .org on Greg's web address.
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/
I'll study that further.
Best.
