File and folder search function

Can anyone tell me why Office XP's SEARCH utility is not
working? All I want to do is delete all Word and Excel
backup files (*.wbk and *.xlk). First I use the Search
function to find all of theses files. When the search
function is done (560 files found) I try to select all and
then delete. But my PC (Dell Inspiron 5100) hangs every
time. The deletion of all these backup files does not
occur and then and then my PC seems to go through a mini
self-restart exercise, taking me back to the desktop, but
not all functioning correctly as some system tray icons
are missing. Any ideas? Thanks!!

You really should use "Start", "Search", "Files and folders" for this
purpose. And as DL said "trim the number back" that you are deleting. It
sounds like the User interface is having a problem with the file
tracking and thats where the "hang" is occuring and then doing a restart.
