File cannot be accessed

I recently migrated all of my info from one macbook to my new one. This was done via Ethernet cable and all of my data came over without a problem. However I now receive an error when attempting to open MS Office Files that have been emailed to me.

"The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding."

Thus far I have:

1. Made sure that I have the exact same version of office as I did before migration with all updates.

2. I have deleted office and compeltely re-installed it and updated.

3. I have called my compute many four letter words.

4. I also took a file that was created on the new computer with office and emailed it to myself and attempted to open it and got the same error message.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Well, obviously, you have not fully exhausted step 3. Surely you can think
of some more words. While you are doing that, how are you mailing the file?
What email program? Are you saving the file to the hard disk, or trying to
double click the email attachment?

I have done it both ways, I have double clicked the file. As well as saving to hard disk. The files are being mailed through Entourage I have sent and received through IMAP, & POP with the same results.

In the Entourage preferences, on the compose tab, make sure compress is NOT
checked, and the encode is set for appledouble.

The problem may not be with the email. I have the same error when I try and access files on a different computer on my network. It seems to only happen with Excel (both 2004 and 2008). I made a new user and that does not have the problem so it must be something in the User preferences or something like that. I do not yet have a solution. I may try setting up a new user and transferring almost everything over to it.
