File Cannot be saved on Windows

Hi,

My wife has Office 2004 and creates Excel files. She can open, modify, save
without issue.

When sent to her partner running Windows XP with SP2 and Office 2003.

The files show up as "read only" and they cannot be saved either "save" or
"save as". An error message just comes up saying "Document not saved"

I have reproduced the issue on my PC also.

On my Mac the file shows up fine and can be both saved and saved as.

I run a compatibility report and the only flags are some date issues in
formulas (the are are no formulas using dates). The file is basically just
a list with date fields.

Any ideas what is the problem.

Hi,

How was the file moved from Mac to Windows? For example, if the file
was put onto a non-writeable media such as a CDR then the permissions
can change from read-write to read-only.

A solution might be to control-click on the file in Finder and create an
archive. Deliver the archive to the Windows user.

The file was originally created on Windows in Excel 2003. It was emailed to
a Mac client where it was modified and saved without issue. The file was
then forwarded via email to another Windows machine running Excel 2003. At
that point the file could be opened and modified, but not saved. The file
could be saved with either a "save" or "save as". This includes first
detaching the file and saving it to the mydocuments folder.

I work around was found to save the file in a down rev format in the save as
dialog box.

Please note: that the file was also emailed to another Mac client running
Excel 2004 and opened and saved without issue.
