File causes crash on PPT 11.2, but prints fine in 10.1.5

I know that this may be a printer issue, but I wanted to start here in
case anyone has any advice for me or has ever seen anything like this
before, so here goes:

I have a pretty hefty PPT file that prints without issue from PPT
10.1.5, but causes an printer error when printed from PPT 11.2. It's
darnedest thing... In fact, it crashes two different printers. I've
tried isolating it by printing over the LAN via ethernet and Airport,
setup the printer as both AppleTalk and LPD, tried from multiple
computers and multiple users and have even connected one of my
computers directly to the printer via ethernet.

I'm going to try again after updating to 11.2.3 to see if that helps.
If any of you are familiar with the HP printers, these are "49" errors,
which HP's site identifies as communication errors. We also have a
black and white HP 1200N printer that prints the document flawlessly
regardless of app version. This has happened on other documents before,
but we've been ignoring the problem since we've been able to print from
the older PPT. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

OS: 10.3.9
Printers: HP Color LaserJet 4500N, 4550N
39MB, 109 page document

Hi Aaron,

See if you can try the file on a computer running OSX version 10.4.6.
It could be an operating system problem that was fixed long ago.

Hi Jim,

I've had a chance to test this in 10.4.6 and the result is the same.
Any other suggestions? Are there any known ways to corrupt a PPT file?
Is there a "best" way to keep things like this from happening? I know
that last one might be really difficult to answer considering that
we're not sure how it was caused in the first place. I guess what I'm
driving at is this: if there's no (easy) way to find out the cause of
this issue, are there some best practices we can try to adhere to the
next time we need to create a presentation that might in the long run,
prevent this from happening again? Thanks!

Hello,

I'm not familiar with the problem you're facing. Since you mention error 49
on your printer, I noticed a lot of troubleshooting steps at
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=25505&prodTypeId=18972&supportTaskId=12451.
Have you tried any of the ones that apply?

Does the problem occur if you print to PDF (File > Print > PDF button, Save
as PDF on Tiger and File > Print > Save as PDF button on Panther) and then
print the PDF?

Thanks,
Andrew
