File conversion problems with Word 2007

I am trying to open saved Wrod 2003 document in Word 2007 and I get this file
conversion box for text encoding but it only prints gibberish after I select
the default setting. Is their a conversion program for Word 2007 that will
make my Word 2003 documents work in Word 2007? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Word 2007 should open Word 2003 documents without any dialog popups. So this
sounds like the Word 2003 document is corrupt. How did you transfer the Word
2003 document to the new computer?
