File copy and replace differences in Windows NT and Windows XP

In windows NT, if you copied a outlook messsage, for example, and then pasted
into a folder in windows explorer you could paste the same file several times
and the file name would be changed and include (2), (3) etc. for each time
you pasted the file. In windows XP this does not seem to be possible as each
time you paste the file you are shown the 'do you want to replace
file.......etc.' message. Is there a way to replicate the copy and paste
file style of windows NT in Windows XP?
