file corruption by Word X

C

cal

I've lost hours of work on two separate occasions now. Working in
Word X (release 1) on a 17" flat panel Imac with system 10.2.6 Word X
really seems unhappy with Equation Editor X but I am a math teacher so
I have to use it. I save as I go along and always just prior to
printing, but this last time when I went to print, nothing happened
except the spiralling rainbow circle of death!

When I force quit the program and try to reopen the document from the
desktop or from inside the program, it tells me the file might be
corrupt and unrecoverable - which in fact it is. I am VERY frustrated
and angry with this particular development.

Any solutions to:

1) preventing this from happening in the future
2) recovering the corrupted file

Thanks,

C.L.

Hi

By any chance did you install equation editor after running the office
updates?

If so, please download the update
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx
and reinstall it. Then run Disk Utility First Aid to repair permissions.

If you use the value pack after installing the update you must re-install
the update and re-run First Aid.
