File .docx wrong association to programme

Windows Vista Home premium XP1
Office 2007 Home & Student SP1

I installed Office 2007 recently. I had been using a previous version of
Office (2000P)
No problem to open docx files if I use the Open button from within Word. But
if I go in through windows
explorer and double clicks a file xxxx.docx, it open the file in
Notepadpad. I tried right-click and open with, browse to
office12\winword.exe,
click OK -- but I can't get word to show up on the program list for open
with.

Then, I went to the control panel to Folder Options - File associations.
Here, the filetype docx is associated with "docx" and not with Microsoft
Word (see screenshot n. 1).
If I clic change Programm Association I can't get Word to show up on the
program list for Open with.

No problem to open files .dotx or .xlsx with double clic.
I think I have some remains of Office 2000 still in my registry
and causing a conflict somewhere.
Here 4 screenshots of the window "Open With"

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Right click on your document, select "Properties". Click on "Change" button
next to "Opens with". Choose Microsoft Office Word in the list, and if it's
not listed, go find it in "Other Programs". You might have to expand that
selection to see other programs. Or "Browse.." for the program.

When I clic Properties -> Change I get the same window Open with (Apri con)
of my first attempt (see screen shot n. 2). If I clic Other Programs I can't
get Word to show up on the
program list for Open with. The same if I clic Browse.

Thanks, but it don't work.

I suggest you Run Office Diagnostics and let it Repair your installation.

I solved the problem by deleting the type file .docx with the program
Creative Elements Power Tools.
After this cancellation all files .docx are now associated with Microsoft
Word

Glad to hear you found the cause.
