File download pop up!

One of our Users is being prompted to Open, Save, Cancel
and More Info box when he tries to export to Excel. There
is a selection at the bottom of that box "Always ask
before opening this type of file". If he deselects that
box to not ask again it comes back up anyway. This
happens even after you close the windows logoff/on or
restart that setting is not being saved. Please help!
Thanks in advance

Sounds like the dialog you get when you launch an attached file from an
email program. The network admin may have used settings that do not
allow this checkbox to stay checked.

Thanks for the response Jon,

In this particular case I don't think this true because
there a few Users that do not have that same problem when
they are exporting to Excel. It doesn't seem to matter
whether a User has (network/local) administrator rights
nor what OS (2K or XP). They are connecting to the same
web server, file, file type and location. Would you have
any further ideas?

Thanks,

Bill

Well, where are they exporting the file from? Isn't it just as easy to
save the file to disk, then open it from Windows Explorer?

Yes they can. But with this issue when they are doing a
presentation in front of a client or prospect they are
pulling these files down from a web site. The reason they
are pulling it from a web site is to show the
client/prospect how easy and flexible the database is for
them to access. These demonstrations a done on-site or off-
site and it becomes an annoyance for the Users. The real
concern is when several of these Users are going through
the screens as a demo. This pop up box keeps coming up
when they deselect the box not to ask again! I am not sure
if there is a fix for this or not. While trying to
troubleshoot this issue we compared profiles and OS and we
have not been able to narrow it down. I was asked to check
with Microsoft to see if this issue has been seen before.
If the Users will have to live with this issue that is
fine, we are just checking to see if there might be a
resolution for this issue.

Bill -

Now I understand the issue. You could have your people just blame IE for
the nag screen, and the clients would merely nod in agreement, and it
wouldn't be a reflection on your product. (Nice to have a common
adversary, even if they don't really deserve it.) That "Always Ask" box
is probably one you want to keep checked.
