File>Exit versus using the Close button

Does anyone know the benefit of selecting File>Exit versus using the Close "X" button? I've heard that File>Exit shuts down all processes in the background whereas the close button just closes the application

Please enlighten, thank you.

There's no difference if you only have one document open. If you have
multiple documents open, File | Exit may close them all, while Close will
only close the active one.
