File Formats

I know this is a stupid question. I am SOMEWHAT new to desktop publishing
and will need to output something in a format that a commercial printer will
accept. What file types (besides PDF - I have been able to discover that
much) can I save my documents as?

You're asking a good question but you should be asking your printer which
file formats he/she accepts. My printer accepts Publisher files (probably
not the 2007 version yet) so I can just send my files to him without any
muss or fuss. And that's a very good thing.
