File in Use Error (Can't seem to be solved)

Hi,

I have a word document which I was working on when word crashed. When I
restarted the computer all documents come up with "File is in use be user XXX
Do you want to make a copy?". If i make a copy word is locked and can't be
edited. I have ran through the MVPs documentation i.e. clearing all the TMP
files from Documents and Settings\XXX\Local Settings\Temp, and i've done a
search for *.tmp and ~$*.do?. I've removed all the files however I still
open the documents and still get the error, any help? its driving me nuts.

Thanks

Rachel

As I said i've been through all the stuff like this including all the MVP
documentation and that page as well, and no luck.

Yes I have multiple times, first it was on just one document, now its nearly
happening on all of them. I re-did the document got half way through and
then saved, and opened it again and its happened to that one to. It loads
and you cant scroll or use any of the toolbar items, im thinking its time for
a re-install of Word???

Thanks

How long have you had the computer? Are you using Norton Anti Virus?

It's a laptop (about a year old ish), Up-to-date with Updates and Patches,
Microsoft Anti-Spyware installed and Norton Anti-Virus 2005.

Open NAV and disable the Office Plugin option under preferences. Does that
resolve the problem?
