File in Use when opening attachments....in Entourage

Have several, but not all, of our macs that have the issues in Office 2004
and Office 2008. When we get an attachment, often the user will simply
double click and open. But on some machines, they double click or highlight
and click open, they get error that the file is in use and cannot be opened.
In office 2004, the user saves to desktop and it opens. In office 2008,
saving to desktop does not allow it to open (file not able to open message).

The Office 2004 is running on mac mini, 10.4.11 (all OS updates) and all
office updates. Have run permission repair, but still not working.
The Office 2008 is running on mac mini, 10.5.7 (all OS updates) and all
office updates. Have run permission repair, but still not working.

Company is running Exchange 2003 with all updates. What is very strange, it
does not affect all users, just some.

The user running Office 2008 could not open .doc, .xls, or .jpg. Forwarding
to another user running Office 2008 and OS 10.5.7, the files can open with no
issues. Forwarding back, the user cannot open. User can create new .doc or
..xls on his machine, email mail to himself, but cannot open.

Any help appreciated.

Is Office installed on the computer or the server? Is their Microsoft User
Data folder on the the computer or the server?

Since this has not been reported before, the problem must be something in
your setup. Either the install or some permissions issue needs resetting.
