File in use: Wrong user name

Hi all,
We're all experiencing an interesting problem. When a spreadsheet is open, and someone else goes to open the same file, we are given a message saying that it is in use. You can either read only, notify, or cancel.

The issue is, is this dialog window also tells you who is using the file. The Name of the user is incorrect. It is NOT the person who currently had the file open, but someone else in the company.

We are all running office 2008, with Mac os X 10.5.2 on intel macs.

Thanks in advance for any help!

IIRC, XL (well, Office core, really) gets that info from the Office User
Data, which is initially set during startup, and can be reset using
Word/Preferences/User Data.

Did the same person install all the versions?

What name comes up in Word/Preferences/User Data?

Hi there,
Let me do some clarifying, sorry.
Firstly, I installed all the copies of office, and they all have different user names, and different license numbers. We never experienced this issue when running office 2004.

The user data of each copy of word (where this problem is not being exhibited only excel) is the same name as the user of the computer, NOT the same person who might have the file open.

For example, person A opens a file. Person B goes to open the file, but the name of person it says has it open is person C.

Thanks again!
Josh

Hi there.
I was wondering if you had any thoughts as to what my problem might be?

Thanks!
