File inserted in power point presentation won't open during slide

I want to insert a word (excel or pdf) document in a ppt file so that the
file will open during the slide show.
I have inserted the file by using the Insert > Object > Create from file >
Browse and select my file.
When I run the slide show, the first page of the file displays on the slide,
but if I click on it, I get the next ppt slide, not the file. The only way I
can open the file is to end the slide show, then right click on the embedded
file, and select Document Object > Open.
Can't I open the file without all the above steps during a presentation?

Hi

If you want to open the object you need to right click and choose "action settings..." then choose "object action" and select the option "open"

This way you can open the file during the presentation.

How do you include the file with a project you are emailing to someone? I.e. how do you get it to access a Word doc?

It works fine when on the computer containing the doc. but not when the presentation is sent to someone else who doesn't have the doc.
