There is no way to prevent any given file from appearing in the Most
Recently Used (MRU) list as long as you have the list active. If you want to
deactivate it altogether you can do so in Word> Preferences - General.
Although you can selectively remove items from the MRU it is a rather risky
method. It can be done using the same feature that's used to remove any Menu
items from any Menu, so if you aren't meticulously cautious you can easily
wind up removing an item you don't want to remove, including the File Menu,
itself... Not to mention that it would have to be repeated every time you've
opened one of the "sensitive" files.
The very fact that you ask the question, however, suggests that there may be
a security hazard that shouldn't be allowed to exist in the first place. Do
you have more than one person using the same User Account? If so, that's
where the problem lies. Each person should have a separate account that they
log into & log out when done. The MRU for one user does not appear in the
File menu for other Users when they launch the program. As long as several
people are using the same account anyone can access the sensitive files even
if they don't appear in the MRU.
