File locatiions issue

Choosing "save" either takes forever, or causes Word to lock up.
Choosing "save as" works. Wrod/Preferences/File Locations ALWAYS locks
up Word. I believe that in the past the File Location Preference may
have been set to a location on a networked computer that is no longer
present, but since the File Locations choice in preferences always
locks the software up, I can't change it. Microsoft Office for
Macintosh 11.3.9, running under OSX 10.5.1. Anyone have any
suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Make sure Word isn't running, then...

In your User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder remove the file named:

com.microsoft.word.prefs.plist

Launch Word - which will take a little longer than usual to start up as the
program will create a new copy of it with default settings. You should find
that the situation improves if that indeed was the problem. However, you
will also have to reset most all of your other preferences as well.

If the problem is fixed you can then delete the old copy of the file.
Otherwise hold on to it as you may want to restore it (replacing the new
one) to regain your previous settings.
