file locked error message

Since moving from Windows2000/Office 2000 to Vista/Office 2007 (we skipped
XP/Office 2003 completely), many of my users are getting an error message
when trying to open a file off of our SAN that the file is locked (by them)
for editing and do they want to open a read-only copy. The user can close the
document and reopen with no issues, but it seems to be reletively wide spread
in my company as multiple users from different departments are having the
problem. Any ideas what could be causing it?

Thanks

Stephen,

I am suffering from precisely the same problem and it's driving me nuts.

I actually did have XP and Office 2003 running... no problem at all. I
bought a new Vista machine and Office 2007 and now I get the same error when
I try to open a file, telling me "file locked for editing." I am the only
user opening that file over the network from a Linux machine running Samba.

I thought perhaps I ought to update the Linux server, so I did. It is now
running Fedora 8 with Samba 3.0.27a. I still get this same problem.

Like you, if I open the file and get the error and hit cancel and then
immediately re-open the file, it works just fine.

XP machines running Office 2007 do not suffer from this problem apparently--
at least nobody has reported this issue to me.

If anybody has a suggestion, I'd love to hear it.

Paul
