I'm sure I've seen this before, but my memory is failing ;-)
For the last two days, a worksheet that I use constantly opens with the
"File is locked for use by TA" message, and the usual dialoge box about
opening as Read-Only, Notify, etc. Although I'm networked, AFAIK, I'm
the only one with access to this file (and yes, it's on my own machine).
Anyway, I opened it Read-Only and saved it with the same filename in
another folder. So far, so good.
This morning I opened the "new" file, and got the same "File locked"
message. Also, when I activated a certain printing macro, I got an Excel
error message telling me that "A document with the name "widget.xls" is
already open. You cannot open two documents with the same name, even if
the documents are in different folders. To open the second document,
either close the document that's currently open, or rename one of the
documents."
So that tells me that for some reason, Excel thinks that the original
Widget.xls is open on my machine. An attempt to rename the original file
with the WIndows Explorer (not inside of Excel) also tells me that the
file is in use. I'm running XP with Office 2000 Pro, and a reboot didn't
help. Other files don't seem to be affected.
I'm not sure how it happened in the first place. The fix is probably
easy, and I'm sure I've run across this in the past, but I just can't
remember it. Can anyone give me a clue?
