file locking in MS Office 2004

I have 13 computers, all macs, that connect to an encrypted server over NFS
(since SMB does not work) thru a UDP port. It works fine, except Office will
not lock the file if someone has it open so no one else can open it until
they close out of it.

Does anyone know if Office 2004 is even capable of doing this file locking
from AFP to NFS?
