file name length problem

I have two files in Word 2000 that I created. But now
they can't be deleted, moved, copied or opened, no matter
if I try through Word or thorugh Explorer. They have very
long file names. The error that comes up says the file
name is too long. How can I shorten the name or delete
these files, as it is preventing me from backing up the
folder they are in.

How were the files created?

Have you tried renaming them from the command-line using their short version
(e.g. filena~1.doc) as the base?

Sounds more like a virus to me.
