I am using Word 2003 on the computer installed with MS XP operating system.
At first I tried to save a word doc. file which file name has 19 characters,
I was unable to save it to our server. Then I saved the file and name it to
test.doc. It worked. Then I gradually increased the number of characters
and up to 12 characters. I was unable to save the same file to the same
folder.
I thought the new MS operating system allows us to save file name much
longer than 8 characters now.
Anyone knows what was the reasons to cause this saving problem? I talked to
our IT people. I asked him did they set up restrictions on the file name
length but he said they did not set up the restrictions. He thinks 19
character file name is just too long. IS that true? What is the limitation
of the MS's file length?
