File name taken from a1

I have an idea but can't make it work.
I have a template, and a1 reprots a combination of date, time, an
customer name so that every time I open the file and enter data th
value in a1 changes (and will never have the same value twice).
Now I want excel to suggest that value in a1 as the filename when
"save as..."
In Microsoft word the suggested filename is whetever the first word is
Unfortunately Excel does not do that, and it is impossible to cut an
paste into the filename box.

Any ideas

Dave,

This can be done with a macro.

Or you can paste from cell A1 by selecting the text of cell A1 (drag through
the text of the cell in the formula bar, or double-click or F2 cell A1 into
Edit Mode). Then do Copy. Press Escape. Now you're ready to do File -
Save As, and paste into the file name box.

If you were selecting the A1 cell, you had a cell on the clipboard when you
did a Copy, not text. The Paster didn't know how to put that into the file
name box. With the above method, you have text. It will paste.
