Suddenly some of my Word documents are appearing with ~$ in front of the
file name, and I cannot open them properly. Wne I do, I get my name and a
lot of little boxes. Can you help me get back my documents please?

Hi Robert,

Those are 'owner' or 'in use' indicators that Word sends out to Windows when you open a document. Those arent' actually your
documents and they're not intended to be opened. It's one of a series of temporary files that Word uses to do its thing. See if

Periodically I use Start=>Run and search for file names found with this search string
~$*.*;*.tmp
and send them off to the recycle bin. A lot of them will be Word 'clutter' from times when a save didn't go right, or Word
shutdown, just because it could <g>.
