File new contact into existing dist list

Why can't I file a new contact into an existing
distribution list? There is a nice prompt at the bottom
for "Category" - why not "Distribution List"?

Help please.

I am currently dumping the new contact into a category.
Fine, now 2 weeks later when I want to send eveyone in
that category an e-mail the choices seem to be:
1. Go to category view in contacts and select all and
drag to a new message.
2. Open a seperate contacts folder that I named the same
as the category so I can keep them seperate, then create
the new contact in that folder, then create a new
distribution list, and select that contact folder, select
all, add to the list.

That is cumbersome - I can't believe I am the onyl one
who wants to add new contacts, "on the fly" into existing
distribution lists.....

Choosing a category sets the value of a property on the contact item. Adding
a contact to a distribution list is not a simple contact item property
change; it involves putting data into a totally different item. Outlook just
wasn't designed the way you want it to work. You can send your suggestions
to (e-mail address removed) and (e-mail address removed)

Your option 1 is simple and easy and avoids all the problems involved in
trying to keep distribution lists. I recommend it highly. (And you can also
do it by choosing Actions | New Message to Contact).

Thanks for responding. Perhaps there is an add on program
that would add that functionality? Perhaps ACT?
