File open and save problems

Frequently when I use the file open command in any Office 2000 product, and
then click on the file dropdown button to change directories, the system
hangs. If I leave it alone, after about a minute or more the dropdown
suddently appears, and everything responds normally. This seems to only
occur the first time I open an Office program after startup. Once it goes
through this initial hang, it seems to work okay.

Also, when I am working in Word and click the "save file" icon, the system
will hang completely, and give me a "not responding" error, and I lose all of
my work in all open Word windows. This occurs very haphazardly - many times
the save command works fine, and then it seems to go through a cycle of
hanging, and then it works fine again.

I have had this copy of Office for four years. I installed it on a new
computer over the summer and it worked perfectly until about three weeks ago
when these problems started to occur. This occurs only with the Office
products - other programs installed on the computer are able to navigate and
save files without a problem.

I made one change that may or many not be related to this problem: In early
September, following a procedure in Microsoft help, I changed the location of
"My Documents" to another directory. In the last week or so I reversed this
procedure thinking that it may fix the problem, however, it did not affect
anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since every Office product is
experiencing this one-minute delay on file-open, and I can count on Word
locking up several times a day.

I had this problem a year ago, but can't remember EXACTLY what I did to
correct it.

It may have been spyware related.

Try:
Windows Updates
Office Updates
Add/Remove Programs (anything that shouldn't be there)
AdAware
Spybot
HijackThis
