File/Open BAR on Office applications

whenever you do File/Open on any of the MS Office
applications a BAR shows up on the Left side with such
things as Desktop, My Network Places, Favorites, etc. I
either want to remove that BAR or , at least, have the
option to ADD shortcuts or remove shortcuts to it. Is
that possible?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
