File Operations Places Bar for Word 2007

I applied a registry edit for altering the file locations in the left pane
when I click on Save or Save As, per Graham Mayor's helpful article. Having
just installed Office 2007, I miss my file locations. Is it still possible to
do this with Word 2007?

See the article (again, for 2003) here:

If you are using Word 2007 under Windows XP, you can customize the Places
Bar without a Registry edit. Select a folder in the Open or Save window,
then right-click in the Places Bar to get a shortcut menu that will include
"Add <folder>."

If you are running under Windows Vista, the mechanism is quite different. I
believe you can drag folders to the Favorites folder or some such, but I
find it much less satisfactory.

Thanks. That did what I want. I do have one more question. The method you
showed me can insert folders onto that left pane, and the right-click menu
let me move others up and down. However, I have a few that I never save
folders to--My Computer, Network Places--is there a way to remove them
altogether? Or if I save enough custom folders, will they get deleted? Also,
there is a folder Trusted TEmplates that remains at the top--I can't even
move that down. Do I need to delete this folder? Or reboot and then I'll be
able to at least move it down? It woudl be easiest for me to have the ones
that I use, in a series starting from the top.

You can move other folders above the ones you never use and eventually
they'll drop out of sight (though they'll still be accessible if you click
the arrow at the bottom of the Places Bar or increase the size of the dialog
box). It is true that Trusted Templates can't be moved; presumably that is
to make it easier to store custom templates in the correct folder (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CreateATemplatePart1.htm).

OK--the more I use this option, the sooner those unwanted ones will drop out
of view. Fair enough. I guess one unwanted folder (the Templates) is
acceptable. Thanks again.
