File Path - Custom Dictionary

Hello,

What is the usual file path for the Custom Dictionary in Word 08? I
can't find mine and apparently, neither can Word.

Thanks,

Can you explain exactly what you do and the error message you get from
Word? I suspect giving you the file path is not going to solve your
problem, but at present, it's not clear what your problem is.

Good Morning,

Every time Word opens (12.0.1) I get the Notice pooping up that it
can't find the Custom Dictionary. When I go to Prefs "Custom
Dictionary" is checked and the Full Path is indicated - but truncated
- so I can't tell where it is - or if it even exists. My System Prefs
are set to Canadian English. There are no other Dictionaries.

I would like to set up a new Custom Dictionary and put it in the right
place - but I want to be sure if the old one is there. Can you please
tell me where it normally resides.

Thanks,

AK

Okay. It's probably here:
[username]Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Custom Dictionary
if you click on Add in the prefs dictionaries dialog, I think it will
automatically take you to the place where your current dictionary is to
add a new one, by the way.

You can try removing and re-adding it. But since Word clearly knows
where it is, I suspect "can't find it" is a misleading error message.
But removing it and adding a new one might work.

Thanks - yes it was there and was up to date. You are correct - it
must be bug.

Thanks for your help,

If you are still getting the error message, I suspect it might have
something to do with language. Word 2008 has some issues with using a
keyboard layout that isn't the same as the language you are using. Also,
if you assigned a language to the custom dictionary, that *might* cause
the problem.
