File permission error when saving to jump drives

I have tried four different brands of jump drives. They work fine for a few
months, then suddenly I get the message that Word cannot save to the drive
due to a file permission error. The drive is not full -- by a long stretch.
Other items can still be saved to the drive, such as pictures. Why does this
happen after a few months, and can it be fixed? Does it matter that I use 3
different computers at work and home?

It is bad practice to save to removable media always save to the hard drive
and copy to and from the removable media.

Thanks Graham.
I prefer not to save private info to the hard drive, but OK, I understand
the point. So to 'copy' do you mean drag rather than use 'save as'? Anything
I can do at this point about my 4 jump drives that no longer will save Word
documents?
