File permission error

Running Word 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1) on XP Professional, I
can only save a document once before it takes on
an "Archive" attribute and, on the next attempt to save
changes, gives the following message: "Word cannot
complete the save due to a file permission error"

I can save under a new name and I can delete the old
file. I can even go into explorer and switch off
the "archive" attribute, releasing the permission for one
more save.

The support site suggests downloading something
called "SR-1a" but the attempt to do so returns the
message that I have "SR-1" already.

I have a feeling that there must be a switch to cause
each save to add the "archive" attribute but I cannot
find it. Can anybody tell me where it is, please?

Thanks

The Archive attribute has nothing to do with this. This attribute just
indicates that the file should be included in any backup that is performed.

OK, thanks very much for your reply.

I still find that I can save any document once but that
on the second attempt I get a permission error.

So, if it's not the "archive" problem and it's not
the "SR-1a" issue, what can it be?

Try disabling the office plug-in under Norton Anti Virus.
